Reaching Out With the Hands of Christ
|
Acts 1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
With a desire to "reach out with the hands of Christ," Westport Baptist Church supports missions awareness, involvement, and support through opportunities to Give...Grow...and Go
Giving--WBC supports a variety of missions efforts financially. By giving to missions, we remind ourselves that others across our state, nation and world are serving to share the Good News of the Gospel. Members have an opportunity to support missions efforts of the Oldham-Trimble Baptist Association, the Kentucky Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention.
While a portion of the tithes collected each week goes towards missions, there are also special missions offerings during the year that allow individuals to give sacrificially to help advance the Kingdom of God. As we enter the Christmas season, we have a very important special offering, the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. The theme this year is Tell Me the Story of Jesus. The offering goes directly towards missionaries working overseas spreading the gospel. The offering is named after Lottie Moon, a Southern Baptist Missionary to China. Generous giving by Southern Baptists during the Christmas season helps fund more than half of the International Mission Board budget. By giving to such a worthy cause, more than 5,100 missionaries were in the field last year. Although last year's offering was a record for the convention, they are hoping to raise even more money this year. Westport Baptist Church has decided to do its part by pushing itself farther than last year. We have taken on the challenge of increasing our giving by 10%, making our goal for this year $2,300. We ask that you pray and think about how God is calling you to be a part of the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. As we celebrate everything that God has given us, ask how you can give back and help others hear about Jesus.

Going--By leaving our "corner of the world" and serving others in Christ's name, we become aware of how people unlike ourselves still have the same needs as us, and how Christ meets our deepest needs as we look to Him. There are many opportunities to be involved with mission work right here in Oldham County, and even in Westport. If you are not big on manual labor, you may be interested in volunteering at the Infant Resource Center or Adult Clothes Closet. Westport Baptist Church spends one night a month helping to sort, fold, and distribute clothes to needy families. Westport is there the second Monday of every month and there is a sign up sheet in the foyer. Come be a part of missions without leaving your own community.
Right now Amy Gorbandt, one of our college students, is spending a semester in Costa Rica. While it is not technically a mission trip, everyone who knows Amy, knows that wherever she goes, the gospel goes too.
